DESCRIPTIONS
Part 1 - Raptor Casses:
- Raptor Medical Lab I - Identifying Raptors
Class 1 of our Raptor Rehabbers Labs series. In this class you will learn to recognize exactly what type of raptor you have by working with live raptors rather than photos. Learn the differences between Northern and Southern Red tail Hawks. See how juvenile birds vary from their parents. This class is usable towards obtaining your federal license for birds of prey.
- Raptor Medical Lab II - Bandaging Raptors
Class 2 of our Raptor Rehabbers Labs series. This class will teach participants to bandage wounds and stabilize the bird to get it to the vet. We will discuss ring and ball bandages for the foot, Figure eight bandages for the wing, emergency splinting, body wraps, and more. This class is usable towards getting your own Raptor rehabilitation license.
- Barred Owl Teach In - The Maniacs of the Night
Barred Owls are the most common, yet least often seen owl in our state. These hidden vermin catchers are amazing animals who are unlike any other bird. Come and learn their secrets in an in depth examination of their behavior, physiology, and environment. This class will include working with and handling live Barred Owls.
-Great Horned Owl Teach In - The Tigers Of The Sky
Great Horned owls are the largest and most adaptive owl in our state. These tigers of the sky are amazing animals who are unlike any other bird. Come and learn their secrets in an in depth examination of their behavior, physiology, and environment. This class will include working with and handling live Great Horned Owls.
-Screech Owl Teach in - Natures Tiny Terrors
Meet the Screech Owls of the American Wildlife Refuge in this class style presentation and learn all about the unique and badly named birds. This class is part of the AWR Raptors Readiness series. The series is assigned to teach both rehab and educational information about specific raptors. There is a cost of $25 per person per class for attending these classes. The classes are usable towards getting a Federal Raptor Rehab License or a Permanent Possession license.
-Red Tail Hawk Teach In - The Wolves of the sky
Meet our Red Tail Hawks, Della and Winger, and learn all about these powerful birds! You will learn many secrets of the Red Tail Hawk as well as many of their behavior practices, their physiology, and their interaction with their environment. You will interact with these amazing animals.
-Vulture Teach In - Our Condor Saviors
Meet our coolest bird, Snoopy The Black Vulture and learn all about these truly astounding birds. You will learn many secrets of the vulture as well as many of their behavior practices, their physiology, and their interaction with their environment. You will interact with this amazing animal.
-Owl Shamanics- The Owl Meditation
Owls are the spirits of the night both physically and spiritually. The first time you see an owl, you realize there is a presence within them that speaks to your soul. In this class, we will discuss the spirits the different owls bring forth and their differences. There will be a short guided beginners meditation in the presence of live owls to help you learn which type of owl you connect with, then there will be longer meditations with the owl you chose. Please note, this is a limited attendance event.
Part 2 - Environment and Sustainability Classes
- Making Your Own Hoop House / Greenhouse
In this class, we will build a simple 8 foot tall by 8 foot long hoop youse to illustrate how easy it is. The will discuss basic options to make the house into a more permanent structure, or ways to make it portable. Students will learn the tips and tricks they need to get it done fast and easy. Handouts include designs and materials lists.
- Herbs as Medicines, Teas, Culinary cures, Poultices, and more.
Now that you have herbs, what do you do with them? Did you know catnip can be used to rid your house of roaches? Did you know there is as much vitamin c in reships as there is in oranges? In this class we will discuss the many uses of herbs. We will discuss spices and food uses, and we will go over some basic medicinal properties and uses. Additionally we will discuss other ways that he's can help your life.
- Making Items From Junk / Recycling To Upcycling
Did you know you can use an old soda or water bottle to open a clogged drain? Did you know eggshells can be used to settle an upset stomach? There are dozens of odd little uses for things we normally just throw away. in this class we will be working with all sorts of them. We will make a solar oven from recyclable junk, beautiful outdoor candle holders from tin cans, and much much more!
Solar Power Systems You Can Make- (making your own lowcost system)
Want to make your own backup power system, but don’t have thousands of dollars? We will teach you how to get together a small system or plan and build a large system piece by piece. You will learn the basic concepts of photovoltaics, batteries, power conversion and more.
Vertical Gardening - Saving Space in Your Garden
This class will help you save horizontal space by making vertical gardens. Not only will you see the methods, but we will supply you with materials for your first vertical gardens, and you will put it together right there, and get it ready for planting!
